Stars above Montblanc (also stars at noon , in the original: Les Étoiles de midi ) is a French mountain film from 1959 by Marcel Ichac and Jacques Ertaud , produced by Filmartic. German premiere was on October 23, 1962.

The exciting documentary film, shot in the Montblanc area, depicts the daring escape of a German prisoner of war in the high mountains, as well as two other episodes: a rescue operation and a difficult wall climb.

action

In the French Alps, mountaineers set out to look for climbers in difficulty. They rest, eat and spend the night in a hut. One of the men reports how years ago he had brought a German prisoner of war to safety across the Alps. He was a member of the French mountain troops at the time when he and his two colleagues discovered the fugitive. Since he posed no danger to them, they helped him to get to Germany via the Alps.

The next morning they get up early. Shortly before sunrise, four of the men set out to look for the missing persons. They meet a smuggler who is traveling in the mountains, but cannot give them any clues about the place of the accident and who had not met anyone. The climbers continue to climb the mountain and have to conquer an ice wall. The further path also leads over icy rocks. Arrived on a towering piece of rock after hours, but you cannot spot any climbers from here either. You briefly enjoy the view and notice a helicopter that is obviously also looking for casualties. On their descent they meet one of the most sought after alpinists. He had stayed behind in their tent when his two colleagues climbed into the wall and couldn't make the way back. So the mountain rescuers now make their way to the rock face described and find the two weakened climbers there. They overestimated themselves on their tour and are overjoyed to be rescued by the experienced mountaineers. It also gives the mountain rescuers a good feeling. The group goes back to the valley with the rescued men, but two of the men want to take the chance, as they are already so high up in the mountains, to climb a little more. You separate from the others and go on a climbing tour alone, but well equipped.

criticism

“A thrilling docudrama about some of the great ventures of French climbers. (...) The actors are all mountaineers, and they bring an immediacy and daring to the fact that the film is a 78-minute winner. "( The New York Times )

Remarks
