Berlin International Film Festival 2002

The 52nd Berlin International Film Festival took place from 6 February until 16th February 2002 instead.

It was the first Berlinale that was directed by the new director Dieter Kosslick . As a former director of the North Rhine-Westphalia Film Foundation , he attaches particular importance to promoting young German film and introduces the “Perspective German Cinema” section as a new section.

International jury

The president of the jury in 2002 was the Indian director Mira Nair . Under her leadership, the following jury members selected the winners: Lucrecia Martel (Argentina), Claudie Ossard (France), Oskar Roehler (Germany), Kenneth Turan (USA), Raoul Peck (Haiti), Nicoletta Braschi (Italy), Declan Quinn (USA) ) and Renata Litvinowa (Russia).

Panorama section

The Panorama Audience Award was given this year's documentary Blind Spot - Hitler's Secretary of André Heller . The Australian film Walking on Water by Tony Ayres received the Teddy Award . The Ecumenical Jury Prize went to the film L'Ange de Goudron by Denis Chouinard .

Honorary Golden Bear

This year, two artists were honored for their life's work: the Italian actress Claudia Cardinale and the American director Robert Altman .

This year's retrospective, entitled European 60s - Revolt, Fantasy & Utopia , showed films by filmmakers from Eastern and Western Europe who shaped and influenced the film scene in Europe in the 1960s. The following films were shown among others:
