Bad Guy ( kor. 나쁜 남자 , Nappeun Namja ) is the seventh film by the South Korean director Kim Ki-duk from 2001.

action

The pimp Han-ki meets the pretty art student Seon-hwa, who is waiting for her boyfriend in a park in Seoul . Han-ki sits down on a park bench next to Seon-hwa and presses her with lustful looks. When her boyfriend shows up, Seon-hwa flees in disgust into his arms. The humiliated Han-ki pulls Seon-hwa out of her friend's arms and forces her to kiss him long. When some military personnel remove Han-ki from Seon-hwa, she spits in his face. In revenge, Han-ki designs an intrigue with which he forces Seon-hwa into prostitution and makes him dependent on himself. A relationship of opposites develops between the two, of disgust and attraction, love and hate.

Reviews

“Kim Ki-duk is a director who always gives preference to deep ambivalence - and knows how to translate it into images of enigmatic power. It is not difficult, on the best of moral grounds, to refuse to deal with "bad guy". Anyone who does this is depriving themselves of a disturbance that is worthwhile. Kim Ki-duk's new film lacks the cohesion of draft that made The Isle (Seom) a masterpiece. It is always a challenge. "

- Ekkehard Knörer : Jump-Cut magazine

“As in 'Seom', Ki-Duk is deliberately trying not to spare the nerves of his audience, and so tender hearts should refrain from watching the film. There is hardly any brutal violence to be seen in the picture, but the emotional cruelty is abundantly present and there is no chance to evade it. "

- Michael Tomiak : Splashmovies.de

“Cho Jae-Hyeon achieves remarkable things in his role as a sociopathic pimp, especially since he has to get along with his facial expressions and body language alone. The viewer can read the tragedy of the character in his face and recognize his emotional life just through the character's presence. [...] Seo Won, who is at his side, also knows how to embody the extraordinary complexity of the role. [...] All in all, the viewer can expect an irritating story about a tragic form of love that leaves a lasting impression. "
