The Riley MPH was a sports roadster released by Riley in 1934.
description
All engines used were six-cylinder engines with OHV valve control , two SU carburettors and a compression of 7.1: 1. The following versions were available:
- 1458 cm³ (from Riley 12/6 )
- 1633 cm³ (from Riley 14-6 )
- 1726 cm³ (from Riley 15/6 )
The 1.6-liter engine developed 50 bhp (37 kW). The 1.7-liter developed 56 bhp (41 kW) and reached a top speed of 143 km / h. Customers could choose between a manual four-speed gearbox and an ENV preselection gearbox. The rear wheels were driven.
The frame side members were located below the rear axle ( underslung ) to keep the height of the vehicle low. The two rigid axles were attached to semi-elliptical leaf springs, the design of which corresponded to that of the Riley racing car, which was built in 1933 for the RAC Tourist Trophy . The four drum brakes with a diameter of 381 mm were cable operated. The body consisted of a frame made of ash wood that was planked with aluminum. The windshield could be folded forward to reduce air resistance.
Selling price was £ 550. It is believed that only 15 MPHs were made, 14 of which are believed to be preserved today. However, quite a few replicas were built. In 1935 all models were discontinued. The successor was the Riley Sprite .
Two Riley 6/12 MPH Racing cars finished second and third in the overall standings at the 1934 24 Hours of Le Mans with 200 and 199 laps respectively.
