Riley 1.5 and Wolseley 1500 were car models from Riley and Wolseley, respectively .

description

The two models had the base plate, suspension and steering of the Morris Minor , but the larger 1489 cc engine of the B-series and a separate body. The two vehicles were launched in 1957 and differed in output by almost 20 bhp (15 kW), with the Riley developing 68 bhp (50 kW) through its two SU carburettors.

In May 1960, the Riley 1.5 Series II appeared . The clearest distinguishing feature from the 1st series were concealed hinges for the bonnet and trunk lid.

The Wolseley 1500 Series II appeared in October 1961 and had a redesigned grille and other taillights.

In 1965 the production of both models was stopped. 39,568 of the Riley were made and 103,394 of the Wolseley.

Engines:

  • 1.2 liter (1200 cc) BMC B-Series 4 cylinder in-line engine, only for the Irish market
  • 1.5 liter (1489 cm³) BMC B-Series 4-cylinder in-line engine, 50–68 bhp (37–50 kW)

In its day, the Riley was used successfully as a racing and rally vehicle and can still be seen in historic competitions today.

In Australia there were also variants of this model with simpler equipment, the Austin Lancer and the Morris Major . However, these models were not offered in Europe.
