action
Vincent is a welder by profession. He is a passionate painter and smoker, but every Monday morning he is torn from his idyll. The alarm goes off at five in the morning and Vincent has to go to the factory. No smoking on the way there, no smoking in the factory. Then he comes home and there, too, his wife Joséphine has imposed a smoking ban on him. His work and his rural surroundings get on his nerves. One day Vincent just decides to get on the train and leave his little world. He's going to Venice . When he arrives in Venice it is Sunday. The people are in a happy mood and Vincent enjoys the serenity of Venice. Here he meets Carlo. The two become friends and Vincent is given a place to sleep with Carlo. Carlo is also a professional welder. When the alarm clock rings for Carlo the next Monday morning, Vincent gets up too. He goes to work with him and sees the sign at the factory entrance: No smoking. Vincent turns around on the spot and prefers to spend the day in Venice rather than at work. Vincent does not return to his village in France until eight months later and begins his normal life again.
Reviews
“Melancholic comedy critical of civilization, which rears up against any hint of depression with bizarre and grotesque moments and strikes a song of praise for freedom and individualism. Rich in references to earlier works by the director, the film convinces with its impressionistic staging and a camera that is open to discovery and shows people and things both concretely and simulatively. "
