Firmine Richard (born September 25, 1947 in Pointe-à-Pitre , Guadeloupe ) is a French actress .

Life

Richard became known to a broad French cinema audience in 1989 for her feature film debut in Coline Serreau's Milk and Chocolate . In the romantic comedy, the Frenchwoman was seen in the lead female role of a cleaning lady who bailed out the boss of a yogurt factory (played by Daniel Auteuil ) several times. Richard then appeared regularly in French film and television productions of all genres, including Dino Risi's drama Grandpa plays crazy with Vittorio Gassman and Dominique Sanda , but was usually subscribed to minor supporting roles. She was only able to build on the success of her first film role in 2002 with François Ozone's crime comedy 8 Women , in which Catherine Deneuve , Isabelle Huppert and Emmanuelle Béart were her film partners. The role of the lover of femme fatale Fanny Ardant and the rest of the female theater ensemble earned her the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2002 for the most outstanding artistic achievement and the European Film Award for best actress.

In addition to her career in film, Firmine Richard also works regularly in the theater. In 2002 she was represented on German television with a supporting role in Uwe Janson's comedy A Nightmare of 3 1/2 Kilos .
