action
The retired police inspector Simon Sablonnet arrives as an inmate in a nursing home and, although he only moves in a wheelchair most of the time, can solve a series of thefts within a short time by convicting the kleptomaniac resident and old rocker Francky. When a short time later the resident of the home and former home manager Alfred Lamproie fell fatally in front of his eyes, Simon, contrary to the home management, assumed that he was murdered. With the support of Francky, with whom he has since become friends, Simon manages to get behind closed doors, but is the victim of an attack, which he survives seriously injured. As he continues to research and question other residents of the home despite his injuries, Simon is sedated by the home management . Thanks to Francky, Simon manages to escape the immobilization. He finds out that Alfred was accidentally pushed over a railing by Edwige, who had recently become the oldest person , and that the geriatric nurse Christine does not even shrink from attempting a murder to protect Edwige.
In the final scene, Simon and Francky enter another old people's home and, after looking at a graffito , realize that they won't be bored.
reception
For the film service , once a police officer, always a police officer is a "lightweight crime comedy, developed as a classic Whodunit that comes up with a stylized arsenal of people". Prisma-Online sees the film as a "funny crime comedy with absurdly comical inserts". For the lexicon of international film , once a policeman, always a policeman is a "largely entertaining, atmospheric but rather pale (television) crime thriller with comedic accents, which was mainly influenced by Jean-Pierre Cassel in one of his last roles".
