action

Philibert Marquet de la Durbellière, a descendant of a noble family, is a perfectionist, stuttering postcard seller. He spends his everyday life in Paris in a large, old-fashioned apartment that belonged to his late grandmother and which he is allowed to live in temporarily. With the antique furniture, chandeliers and paintings, he has set up his rooms in such a way that he has as little contact as possible with the outside world. His subtenant Franck, an enthusiastic motorcyclist and cook, provides variety in Philibert's somewhat monotonous world. The rowdy Franck does not recognize his own loneliness in the beginning: As soon as his working day ends in the large kitchen, he spends his free time with superficial stories about women or drives a motorcycle. The only person Franck has regular contact with is his grandmother Paulette, who is in the hospital after an accident. One day the young Camille Fauque, who works as a cleaning lady in offices in the evening and draws in her free time, involuntarily steps into the bizarre everyday life of the men's flat share.

Philibert takes Camille in when she is sick with the flu and takes care of her. While she gradually regains her strength and puts on a few kilograms, she upset the lives of the flat-sharing community and has a couple of tangible arguments with Franck. As the two of them get along better and better, Franck's grandmother moves into the flat - at Camille's insistence, who takes care of the friendly older woman devotedly. Camille and Franck sleep together and Franck falls in love with them, which Camille refuses at first. Paulette moves back into her own house with Camille and dies there. Philibert learns to suppress his stuttering, becomes a comedian, marries and moves out. Franck wants to go to England because of work, but then stays in France because of Camille and opens a restaurant with her.

Reviews

"The film [...] accompanies the four characters, who are pure of heart, in a lively, tender, happy and sensitive way and with undeniable empathy in their search for harmony."

“Laurent Stocker in particular is moving in the role of a great shy man who gets confirmation from acting. His subtle play and that of his teammates contribute to the special, generous quality of this film. "

“From time to time a film appears on the screens that is different from the others and whose uniqueness seems to consist in something that has gone out of fashion: namely, in the fact that it makes you happy [...] That is with 'Together one less alone 'the case. "

"It has swing, this well-written comedy, and there is a lot of love in every picture."

- Elle

“Camille, played by Audrey Tautou, is a talented draftsman. She finds shelter with a decrepit offspring of the nobility and finally even charms his rough tenant, a gifted cook. Claude Berri's adaptation of the novel only feigns interest in the precarious, social situation of his characters, everything seems thought-out and superficial and characterized by an inedible sweetness. "

"A sympathetic comedy with melodramatic features as a declaration of love for life, which, however, does not shy away from kitsch and clichés."

Film awards
