Audrey Justine Tautou [odˌʀɛ ʒysˌtin toˈtu] (born August 9, 1976 in Beaumont ) is a French actress . She became known in 1999 for the film Schöne Venus , and became a star in 2001 with The fabulous world of Amélie . Her second big success was in 2004 Mathilde - A great love . In 2009 she played the lead role in Coco Chanel - The Beginning of a Passion .

Life

Audrey Tautou, the daughter of a dentist, grew up in Montluçon . After graduating from high school with honors, she attended the Cours Florent theater course in Paris . After starring in short films and French television series ( Julie Lescaut ) , she received a role in the film Beautiful Venus , for which she was awarded the César . Then she got the lead role in 2001 in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's The Fabulous World of Amélie . Tautou was nominated for the César and the European Film Prize for her portrayal of the shy Amélie who decides to change the lives of others for the better .

The Da Vinci Code , the film adaptation of the book of the same name , was released in May 2006 ; for Tautou, alongside Tom Hanks , this was the first Hollywood production.

In the film Coco Chanel - The Beginning of a Passion (2009) she embodied the fashion icon Coco Chanel during her apprenticeship years. Almost at the same time as the German film premiere, Tautou also replaced Nicole Kidman as the face of the Chanel Nº 5 advertising campaign . The film was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, with whom she had already worked on The fabulous world of Amélie .

Audrey Tautou hosted the opening gala and the final awards ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 . In 2015 she was a member of the international jury of the 65th Berlinale .

In February 2019, she adopted a girl from Vietnam.
