action

Nathalie Kerr lives and loves with François in a happy and romantic relationship. Every year they re-enact what they got to know in a café and also perform many other little rituals. Life is going perfectly for Nathalie. She has a new job, the two of them are getting married and the family seems to get on well too. After three years of marriage, Nathalie is professionally successful and still happily in love. Until one day she receives the news that François was fatally injured in a traffic accident while jogging. She was deeply hit and from now on withdraws emotionally. She tries to deal with her pain by throwing all of his things away. But she still cannot delete his phone number. Rather, she tries to numb herself by doing as much work as possible. After three more years, she seems to be better. She is successful at work and is promoted. To celebrate the promotion, her boss Charles invites her to a restaurant and tries to get closer to her. But not only that Nathalie has withdrawn emotionally, she also makes it clear to him that he is not her type and could never even think of doing something with him.

The next morning, the Swedish employee Markus Lundell appears in her office and asks for 114. Nathalie gets up lost in thought and kisses him. Suddenly Markus starts to rave about her, wondering all the time why she kissed him. The next morning he tries to repeat this kiss and goes back to her office. But instead of being kissed again, Nathalie wonders what he wants from her. He tells her what happened. But she can't remember and is incredibly embarrassed, so she apologizes to him. But that's not good enough for him, so he goes back to her soon afterwards and kisses her stormily. Nathalie is shocked and Markus flees. Nathalie looks for him and finds him on the roof, where she agrees to an invitation to dinner. He then orders dish number 114 from the Chinese, fried noodles with shrimp. The food is going so well that Markus feels motivated enough to start jogging. After a second evening, this time with a pleasant visit to the theater, they both feel so comfortable that they stroll through the streets. However, in the conversation Markus realizes that Nathalie is way too good for him, which is why he runs away in panic and leaves her alone.

The next day Nathalie tries to speak to him. But Markus is absolutely professional and breaks off any further conversation. This makes Nathalie so angry that she almost makes a scene at the subsequent birthday party of her assistant Chloé. But Markus couldn't hold off his feelings for long and gives her a little present and they both meet later at dinner. Markus still believes that Nathalie will appear at any moment to end the relationship. But when she comes, she feels good and doesn't want to be anywhere else than with him. But she doesn't want to talk about their relationship either, she just wants it to go on forever. The office has long been aware of the relationship and Charles, who is still secretly in love with Nathalie, is driven by jealousy. He invites Markus to drink and has to find out that Markus is exactly the type of man who is right for Nathalie. He is sensitive, kind and poetic. That makes him angry. Markus himself is only angry when he realizes after Nathalie introduces her friends that they don't think much of him. He tells about the previous meeting with Charles. That in turn makes Nathalie angry. The next day she runs into her boss's office and slaps him in the face. After all, he has no right to interfere in their love life. Charles reveals that he is not only disgusted by Markus' insignificance and ugliness, but also had him promoted to Stockholm for a better salary . This makes Nathalie even more angry, until Charles suddenly mentions her late husband, François. This puts Nathalie in a state of shock, which leads to her leaving and breaking an upcoming meeting, which took three months of preparation.

Nathalie just drives away. Markus finds out about this and she picks him up from the Montgeroult – Courcelles train station. Nathalie tells Markus about her deceased husband. Both grew up in the same area and yet have never met. They visit François' grave and then Nathalie's grandma in the pouring rain. Since they are completely soaked, they wear Nathalie's grandparents' clothes and spend their first night of love together after a lively evening. The next morning Nathalie shows Markus the garden and tells him how she spent her summers here again and again. He suggests simply playing hide and seek again, as in the past. He understands that he is not only following in the footsteps of Nathalie's presence, but also wants to hide in Nathalie's heart.

criticism

The lexicon of international films said: "The film dissolves the drama in a fast-paced comedy carried by nuanced actors, which remains extremely conservative in the distribution of gender roles, but is entertaining thanks to the careful staging."

The film evaluation agency gave the film the rating of “particularly valuable” and said: “The result is a wonderfully light-footed love comedy with a magical Audrey Tautou in the lead role. The romance between Nathalie and Markus is told very sensitively, who looks at himself with irony and gradually wins Nathalie's heart for himself with his humble and humorous manner. The ideas are original, the imagery is poetic and above everything is a soundtrack full of touching chansons. A modern and wonderful French movie fairy tale about love, which is always good for surprises. "
