From a young age, Émilie Simon was taken to recording studios and concert performances by her father, a sound engineer , and her mother, a professional pianist , and given musical training. In late 2007, Simon moved her main residence from Paris to New York City . Based on the nickname of New York (The Big Apple ) , she released her third studio album, The Big Machine, in September 2009 , which, in contrast to the previous albums, she sang entirely in English.
