action

The plot follows on from the previous film: Again it is about the French Xavier, whose academic year as an economics student in Barcelona was shown in L'auberge espagnole . Five years later, now in professional life, he still has the desire to become a writer. He is not yet very successful and writes scripts for cheesy television series. His love life is a mess. He's constantly getting to know new girls, but he doesn't endure any of them for long.

He finally gets a job offer from London to work on an English script. His co-author is no stranger, but the Englishwoman Wendy, with whom he lived in the Barcelona apartment. In Paris, Xavier falls in love with a model and no longer knows what and who he actually wants. Together with Wendy he travels to St. Petersburg in the hope of being able to reflect on his chaotic life on this trip and finally to be clear about his feelings. Wendy's brother William is getting married in St. Petersburg and all former residents of the Barcelona flat share are invited.

Reviews

"The sequel to L'auberge espagnole (2002) offers entertaining cinematic pleasure: [...] Playfully-cartoon-esque narrated, the film is entertaining mainly thanks to the excellent actors and condenses into an amiable didactic piece about life and love."

“Klapisch carefully developed the characters and you can clearly see that the actors have grown up in the five years. Soon the film grows beyond a reunion party with sympathetic film characters and develops into an independent portrait of the generation of around 30 who is tossed back and forth between fears of adjustment and longing for establishment.
