Best Actress: Marion Cotillard for La vie en rose

When the nominations were announced on January 25, 2008 by the president of the award ceremony, French actor Jean Rochefort , Olivier Dahan's La vie en rose and Claude Miller's A Secret dominated the award ceremony with eleven nominations each. Dahan's cinematic homage to the life of Édith Piafs , which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2007 , earned particularly high praise from international critics for lead actress Marion Cotillard . The French actress won the Golden Globe Award and the Oscar for Best Actress , among others . At the Césars, Cotillard met Isabelle Carré ( Anna M. ), Cécile de France ( A Secret ), Marina Foïs ( Darling ) and Catherine Frot ( Odette Toulemonde ) in the same category . The big competitor A Secret , a family drama with a prominent cast that goes as far as the atrocities of World War II and the Vichy regime , brought old master Claude Miller the seventh nomination for the director's award. In addition to Olivier Dahan ( La vie en rose ), he met Oscar-nominated American Julian Schnabel ( butterfly and diving bell ), André Téchiné, who was considered for his AIDS drama We Were Witnesses , and Abdellatif Kechiche ( couscous with fish ), last year's winner of the renowned Louis Delluc Prize , which was finally able to prevail.

The field of nominations in the category Best Film was won by Julian Schnabel's Butterfly and Diving Bell (7 nominations), the Oscar-nominated comic adaptation Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud (6 nominations) and Abdellatif Kechiche's Arabic family chronicle Couscous with Fish (5 nominations) ) added. The rare honor of a double nomination went to French actor and Comédie Française member Laurent Stocker . For his role as the depressed aristocratic offspring in Claude Berri's love film Together, One Is Less Alone , he could hope for the awards for the best supporting and young actor. Meanwhile, last year's German Oscar winner The Lives of Others by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck competed for the award for the best foreign film against the 2008 Oscar-candidate thriller Tödliche Promises - Eastern Promises by David Cronenberg , Cristian Mungius Goldene Palme winner 4 Months, 3 weeks and 2 days , Fatih Akıns drama On the Other Side and James Gray's crime film Heroes of the Night - We Own the Night .

The ceremony was broadcast live by the French pay-TV transmitter + Canal transmitted. "We are relying on a festive and fun edition, all the more since there was nothing exciting on the cultural level in the past year," says Jean Rochefort, who alluded to a decline in cinema visits in France.
