action

Marcelline, a popular and critically acclaimed actress, is slated to play the lead role of Natalia Petrovna in Ivan Turgenev's play " A Month in the Country ". the director Denis keeps the troupe relentlessly on their toes and gives them only a few breaks. When her gynecologist points out, Marcelline only realizes that her 40th birthday is imminent. She wonders what she's already done in her life. Previously only living in the world of theater, she now realizes how unworldly she is. As a result, she gets into a deep crisis of meaning, as a result of which she can no longer distinguish between dream and reality.

Reviews

Esther Busse wrote in cut no. 50 that Valeria Bruni Tedeschi had “written a quirky role, whose neurotic clumsiness repeatedly leaves the defined framework of comedy and is looking for unpredictable forms of confrontation”.

Der Spiegel came to the conclusion that it is part of the great art “of this actress and director that she succeeds in making this self-centered, exaggerated diva appear sympathetic at the right moment.” Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi never takes herself too seriously , but instead create with “Actrices” an “ironic and at the same time sad self- and artist portrait, in which theater and life, reality and fiction can often no longer be kept apart [sic!]."

The “enchanting” Valeria Bruni Tedeschi indulge in the clichés and use the stereotypes, according to the Hamburger Abendblatt of April 17, 2008. In doing so, she likes “contrary to her image as a shy actress who does not even give interviews” as an “exalted, jittery annoyance whose vanity has been violated. "
