Julie Delpy (born December 21, 1969 in Paris ) is a French - American actress , director , screenwriter and singer .

Julie Delpy is the daughter of the French actor couple Marie Pillet and Albert Delpy . At the age of five she stood on a theater stage for the first time. She completed a study directing at the film school in New York and has lived in since 1992 Los Angeles .

She got her first minor role in Jean-Luc Godard's film Détective (1985). For her role in Die Nacht ist jung (1986) she was nominated for the César for Best Young Actress in 1987 . She played her first major leading role in 1987 in Bertrand Tavernier's film The Passion of Beatrice . As the co-scriptwriter of Before Sunset and Before Midnight , Delpy received an Oscar nomination, while her acting performance in the third part was honored with a Golden Globe nomination.

In 2001 she played in seven episodes of the US hit series Emergency Room - The emergency room, the friend of Dr. Kovac. In autumn 2003 a CD was released with eleven chansons in English and French, to which she accompanied herself on the guitar.

In 2007 she presented her directorial debut 2 Tage Paris at the 57th Berlinale , and in 2009 she presented The Countess, her film adaptation of the life of the Hungarian "Blood Countess" Elisabeth Báthory . With 2 Tage New York , Delpy released the sequel to 2 Tage Paris in 2012 ; both comedies parody the cultural differences between Americans and French. She likes the concept of the naughty French very much, Delpy justified her ongoing concern with the subject. She presented this film in Germany at the Munich Film Festival . 2015 and 2019 followed with Lolo - Drei is one too many and My Zoe two more films directed by her. She also works as a screenwriter for her films.

In 2017 Delpy was awarded the European Film Prize for Best European Performance in World Cinema .

From 2004 to 2013 Delpy was in a relationship with the German film composer Marc Streitenfeld . The relationship resulted in a son in January 2009.
