Lolo - Three is one too many (Original title: Lolo) is a French comedy directed by Julie Delpy from 2015. The film was released on October 28, 2015 in French cinemas. The cinema release in Germany was on March 17, 2016 and in Austria one day later.

Violette is a neurotic-hypochondriac Parisian who works in the fashion industry. The woman in her mid-forties is divorced and lives with her teenage, spoiled son Éloi, called Lolo. During a vacation in Biarritz, she meets the computer scientist Jean-René and they have a brief affair. When Jean-René moves to Paris for professional reasons, they want to deepen their relationship, if only it wasn't for Lolo; because he can't bear to no longer be the center of his mother's life ...

Julie Delpy says she was inspired to write this comedy by the films Evil Saat and The Village of the Damned . But not only the narcissistic son and the educational issue were in the foreground for Delpy. She criticized the fact that in many films women at 40 had the same problems as 25-year-olds; therefore she wanted to show relationships between older adults in Lolo . In the open-hearted, cheeky manner of Violette and her best friend Ariana, she wanted to allude to the personalities of her own parents, especially her mother.
reception
Cinema praised Julie Delpy for staying “true to her love of frivolous dialogue”. With Lolo , she has succeeded in creating an "abysmal comedy" that "combines biting humor with situational comedy". The film service , however, found Delpy series “their tried and tested comedy elements a little too calculated together” so that the “increasingly absurd farce with many caricatures, quick exchanges and infantile situation comedy” was a “Machiavellian dance” for a while, “but then all too predictably into the well-trodden path.
