Veit Vendt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Veit Vendt (* in Iphofen ; † October 30, 1503 in Ebrach ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1495 to 1503 .

Life

Veit Vendt was born in the Lower Franconian town of Iphofen in the 15th century . His parents named the son after the city saint Vitus. Otherwise nothing is known about them, and any siblings of the future abbot are not mentioned in the sources. Veit probably first learned at the Latin school in his hometown before setting off to study. He may have attended the university in nearby Würzburg.

After the resignation of his predecessor Nikolaus II in 1495, the monks chose Veit Vendt as his successor. The newly elected abbot then had a new sacristy added to the monastery church for 1000 guilders . Likewise, already ill, he made a pilgrimage to Bamberg to ask for redemption from his suffering. After eight years in office, Veit Vendt died on October 30, 1503 and was buried in the monastery sepulture.
