Nicholas II angel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nikolaus II. Engel , called Angeli (* in Königsberg in Bavaria ; † November 20, 1509 in Ebrach ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1489 until his resignation in 1495 .

Life

Nikolaus II. Engel was born in the 15th century in Königsberg, Lower Franconia , which today bears the title of Königsberg in Bavaria. The sources are silent about the parents of the future abbot, nor are any siblings mentioned. The school education probably began for Nikolaus in the Latin school in his hometown. After entering the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach, a degree probably followed. Nikolaus Engel was later named professor and master of philosophy.

After the death of Abbot John I Kaufmann in the spring of 1489, the monks elected Nikolaus Engel to succeed Nicholas II. He was the twenty-eighth abbot to head the monastery. The sources report next to nothing about the reign of Nicholas in Ebrach. After six years as abbot , Nikolaus resigned himself out of love for peace and quiet and spent the rest of his life, at least 14 years, in the abbey's sick bay. He died here on November 20, 1509.
