A successful painter moves from Paris to the house in the country where he was born. There he is looking for a gardener to look after his property. Léo, a former schoolmate of the painter, replied to the newspaper advertisement. The gardener creates a kitchen garden for the painter. At the end of summer the gardener dies and the painter overcomes his creative crisis.

Reviews

“A calm and humorous film. He tells of moments in life that seem important to us and gives very personal answers to the question of what really matters. "

- femundo.de

“In calm shots and long dialogues, a relationship unfolds in which both men rediscover each other. Against the background of current conflicts, the spectrum of which the film indicates in striking details, the film creates a visionary possibility of social reconciliation. "

- Jury of the Evangelical Film Work on the film of the month December 2007

“As always, perfectionist Jean Becker meticulously staged every nuance, every comma, every small gesture - but always discreetly and unobtrusively, so that everything appears completely natural. His adaptation of the novel by Henri Cueco does not simply glorify country life, but remains surprisingly cliché-free and does not omit tragic elements. This is how Becker succeeds in making a refreshing and touching film about friendship - deeply human and full of warmth. "

- Hamburger Morgenpost from December 20, 2007

“The world of French director Jean Becker is a deeply well-meaning, humane and nature-loving one. A world that tries to avoid a deeper examination of reality and tries to cement possible faults with beautiful pictures. "

"Atmospheric portrait of an unusual friendship between men and the search for the meaning of life in simple but effective pictures trained in impressionism, with practical-philosophical dialogues and two great main actors."

Awards

Leading actor Jean-Pierre Darroussin was nominated for the role of Léo in 2008 for the César .
