In the documentary film Julian Schnabel - A Private Portrait by the director Pappi Corsicato from 2017, painter Julian Schnabel explains about his artistic work: “ I have been painting outdoors since 1979. I enjoy working outside. At the beginning it bothered me when the wind knocked over a picture or blades of grass got stuck in the wax. But then I realized that the benefits outweigh the rest. You can see the pictures from a distance and at different times of the day. It's wonderful to be outside and see the sky. You can see his work in bad and good weather. If you paint a picture outside, it always looks good inside too. "
