Freida Pinto
Freida Pinto (born October 18, 1984 in Mumbai ) is an Indian actress , presenter and model . She became known to a wide audience through the female lead in the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
biography
Freida Pinto was born as the second daughter of bank manager Frederick Pinto Neerude and school principal Sylvia Pinto Derebail, both of whom came from Mangalore . Her name is of Portuguese origin and her family was originally Catholic. Pinto's sister is employed as a producer for an Indian news channel. Pinto completed her English studies degree at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai with the Bachelor of Arts from. She has been a model since 2005. During this time she appeared in campaigns for India Today , Škoda , De Beers , eBay , VisaCard , Wrigley and on various front pages and fashion shows. From 2006 to 2007 Pinto worked as a presenter for the English-language travel magazine Full Circle . In 52 episodes she traveled to destinations such as Afghanistan , the Fiji Islands , India , Malaysia , Singapore and Thailand as part of the show .
From 2007 Pinto tried to gain a foothold as an actress in the Indian film industry. She played the lead female role in the feature film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). In the film, she plays the great love of the six-year-old Dev Patel , who is a candidate for the game show in the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? reaches for the main prize and remembers his childhood in the poor areas. In 2009 the film won eight Academy Awards and a Golden Globe Award , and Pinto himself received a nomination for the British Academy Film Award .
After the success of her first film role, Pinto took acting classes. In 2010 she starred in Woody Allen's comedy I See the Man of Your Dreams alongside Anthony Hopkins , Naomi Watts , Antonio Banderas and Josh Brolin, a music student who cancels her imminent wedding due to a liaison with a neighbor. She got another role in Julian Schnabel's drama Miral (2010), which tells of the attempts of a woman (played by Hiam Abbass ) to open an orphanage in Jerusalem in the late 1940s .
From 2008 to 2014 she was in a relationship with Dev Patel , her partner from Slumdog Millionaire .
At the end of April 2009, Pinto, who counts actors like Kate Winslet , Leonardo DiCaprio , Aamir Khan and Shahid Kapoor among her role models, was voted one of the 100 most beautiful people in the world by the US magazine People . Two weeks later, she was introduced as the new face of L'Oréal .
Freida Pinto has been an ambassador for the “Because I am a Girl” campaign of the children's aid organization Plan International since 2012 .
