May Andersen , actually Lykke May Andersen , (born June 16, 1982 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish model and mannequin . Andersen was best known for her collaboration with Victoria's Secret and her appearance in Sports Illustrated Swimsuits Issue . Despite being arrested for rioting on a plane in Miami, she officially represents the Danish tourism program. Her agency Elite Model Management tried to distance herself and Andersen from the scandal by changing the name under which Andersen is listed to Lykke May .

Life

Andersen wanted to be a singer as a child, but at the age of thirteen he caught the eye of a photographer in Copenhagen who convinced her and her parents of good opportunities as a photo model, despite her young age. At the age of eighteen she moved to New York City . Andersen regularly appeared in fashion shows of the haute couture of renowned fashion houses, among others with Valentino (autumn / winter 1998 to spring / summer 2005), Christian Dior and Chanel , as well as in prêt-à-porter fashion shows by Yves Saint Laurent , Nino Cerruti , Louis Vuitton , Trussardi or Vivienne Westwood . She was also featured on the covers of various fashion magazines such as Elle , Vogue , Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan .

In 2000, the vehicle in which she was traveling on Avenue of the Americas was rammed by a garbage disposal truck and Andersen broke his collarbone and wrist and suffered abdominal injuries. She later received compensation from the city council.

She was attacked by animal rights activists because she also poses for fashion shows that show fur . The most famous case occurred in 2003 when she and her colleague Devon Aoki were injected with tear gas on her face during Fashion Week in Paris .

On April 20, 2006, she was arrested in Miami , Florida for allegedly beating a flight attendant on the flight from Amsterdam to Miami . According to the airport police, she continued to behave loudly and improperly even after her arrest. After taking an alcohol and drug test, she was taken to the Miami-Dade County Jail . On April 24th she was deported to the Netherlands by US Customs and Border Protection . She was charged with rioting, resisting arrest and wrongful intoxication. On Danish television, she defended herself that she might have accidentally pushed the flight attendant in her sleep while he was trying to straighten her seat. When she was woken up a second time by a police officer, she reacted violently because she was separated from her friend and sleepy and did not understand the allegations made to her. On July 25, the case against her was dropped after she agreed to take a course on anger management.

Andersen inspired the American television series Six Degrees in an episode first broadcast by ABC on September 21, 2006 , in which a fictional person named Mae Anderson (played by Erika Christensen of Danish origin ) boards a garbage truck after a lively night with friends and takes off her outerwear on the drive down Fifth Avenue , whereupon she is arrested. The scene alludes to both May Andersen's accident and her arrest.

In May 2012 she was on the cover of US Playboy .

In 2013 Andersen had a son. The father is the artist Julian Schnabel .

In 2014 she played an important supporting role in Susanne Bier's feature film Second Chance .
