The Trussardi S.pA is a named after its founder Dante Trussardi Italian fashion group for women's, men's and children's apparel and accessories in the upper price segment.

The Milan-based family business with global retail stores is now in its fourth generation and is internationally known for its handcrafted luxury leather goods and accessories. The company operated Fondazione Nicola Trussardi is an internationally renowned foundation for the promotion of contemporary art .

Company history

In 1911 the Milanese leather goods manufacturer Dante Trussardi († 1970) founded a glove factory called Sosir near Bergamo . The luxurious gloves from Trussardi quickly became a status symbol , conquered the international market within a few years and were sold in the USA and Great Britain , among others .

After Dante's grandson Nicola Trussardi (1942–1999) joined the company in the late 1960s , he took it over in the early 1970s with the intention of making Trussardi a global fashion company. The gloves were initially joined by bags, suitcases and small leather goods. The leather processing methods have been refined and expanded to include innovative processes. 1973 Nicola Trussardi designed the still common stylized Greyhound - Logo ( Greyhound ) as a hallmark of the company. Three years later the first Trussardi boutique opened in Milan, where high-priced leather goods, leather clothing and a jewelry collection with the greyhound logo were presented. In 1980 the holding company Finanziaria operazioni societarie SpA ( Finos ) was founded, to which the later management company Trussardi SpA belongs to this day.

In the 1980s, Trussardi developed into a lifestyle brand. During this time, Nicola Trussardi designed aircraft interiors for Alitalia and designed motorcycles and vehicle interiors for Alfa Romeo . The Trussardi women's fashion collection, Trussardi Donna , was launched in 1983 and presented in the foyer of La Scala in Milan . Men's fashion, Trussardi Uomo , followed the following year. From then on Trussardi was present at the Milan Fashion Week . In the mid-1980s, a sportswear collection called Trussardi Jeans and children's clothing was added. At the end of the 1980s, the sporty side lines Trussardi Sport (recreational sports) and Trussardi Action (extreme sports) were presented. These secondary lines were licensed to Ittierre SpA until 1995 and were then produced in-house. This was followed by fragrances , glasses, home articles and accessories under the Trussardi brand . In 1986 Trussardi was converted into a stock company. In 1988 Trussardi equipped the Italian Olympic delegation at the Olympic Games in Seoul . Since 1989 the former Hotel Marino alla Scala from the 18th century in Milan, called Palazzo Trussardi alla Scala , has housed the company headquarters, the flagship store, a showroom and the Trussardi restaurant on six floors. From the 1990s , the Trussardi Group expanded internationally, particularly in Asia , but also in Europe and Russia , and opened numerous stores of its own around the world. In 1991 the house launched the Haute Couture collection Trussardi Couture in Rome . In 1994 Nicola Trussardi made a guest appearance in Robert Altman's fashion satire Prêt-à-porter and played himself in it. In 1996, the art lover founded the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi , a foundation that sees itself as an agency for the promotion of contemporary art and culture in Milan. From 1997 to 1999 Nicolas Ghesquière , a Balenciaga designer, was a guest designer at Trussardi and showed two successful collections.

After Nicola Trussardi's fatal car accident , his son Francesco (1974–2003) took over management of the group in 1999. Francesco also died in a car accident in 2003 at the age of 29. The company was then owned by Nicola Trussardi's children Beatrice, Gaia and Tomaso and his widow, Maria Luisa Gavazzeni.

In the early 2000s, difficult times for the international luxury market, Trussardi returned to its roots in the leather goods business as part of a restructuring process, took back externally issued licenses and narrowed down the very broad product range (there had even been Trussardi cigarettes ) again; the brands Trussardi Sport and Trussardi Action have been discontinued. At the beginning of the 2000s there were around 30 Trussardi stores worldwide for the company's main line, including two in Berlin and Munich (now closed), of which around 20 were operated by partners. The branch lines were offered through a global network of around 100 so-called T'Stores .

Since the death of her brother Francesco, Beatrice Trussardi (* 1971) has acted as CEO of Trussardi. To this day, she also chairs the Nicola Trussardi Foundation . In 2005 the TRU Trussardi collection was introduced as a link between the main Trussardi collection and the Trussardi Jeans sportswear line . Gaia Trussardi, Beatrice's sister, had been the house's fashion coordinator since 2006, heading a team of designers. The youngest son of Nicola Trussardi, Tomaso Trussardi (* 1983), acted as managing director of the company's own production company TRS Evolution SpA (until 2002: Sosir SpA ). From the beginning of the 2010s, Tomaso Trussardi, who has been married to Michelle Hunziker since 2014 , appeared in advertising campaigns for the Trussardi brand , for example in an advertising film made by Wim Wenders for the Trussardi men's perfume My Land at the end of 2012 .

In 2007 the company's new website went online. The logo was renewed in 2008. The high-priced Trussardi main collection with clothing and accessories was relaunched in 2008 with the former Jil Sander designer Milan Vukmirovic as Trussardi 1911 for women and men. In March 2011, Trussardi announced that Vukmirovic was leaving the company. In June 2011, the Turkish Umit Benan, who was born in Stuttgart and has been running a men's fashion label named after him since 2009, was officially appointed to succeed Vukmirovic at Trussardi. As a consequence, the main collection was renamed Trussardi again in 2012 . Benan left Trussardi in the spring of 2013.

Trussardi today

At the end of February 2013, Gaia Trussardi was appointed as the new creative director, who appeared on the catwalk for the first time at the Trussardi men's fashion show in June 2013 to the final applause. From the summer of 2013, the company was also offering children's fashion again.

In 2016, Tomaso Trussardi took over the company share and CEO position from his sister Beatrice, who has since concentrated on the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi.

The main Trussardi collection is sold worldwide through upscale retailers and a few Trussardi flagship stores (as of 2016: Milan, Rome, Forte dei Marmi , Madrid , Shanghai ) as well as through the company's own online shop. The other Trussardi boutiques, of which there are around 180 in the world today, most of which are operated in the franchise system, operated under the name "Tru Trussardi" until 2016 (until 2005: T'Stores ) and offered the cheaper Tru Trussardi and Trussardi Jeans brands. Since 2009 the GUM department store in Moscow has had its own Trussardi Jeans store. The Tru Trussardi bridge line was abandoned in 2016 . The former Tru -Ladengeschäfte hot since returned T'Trussardi , as in the 1990s under Nicola Trussardi. The former sports collection Trussardi Sport has been revived.

For the 100th company anniversary, on the occasion of which a collection with Trussardi 100 products was presented in 2011 , there was among other things a Trussardi special model of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo .
