Canadian Heritage Rivers System
The Canadian Heritage Rivers System (CHRS) has existed since 1984. It was formed by the administrations of Canada and its provinces to protect the best preserved rivers in Canada and to maintain their recreational function. In addition, the diversity of the Canadian rivers is to be preserved and their importance for Canadian history and society shown. This protection should also preserve the rivers for future generations. This system is administered by a 15-member national authority.
