The Soper River runs through the tundra -covered hills of the southern Baffin Island in the Qikiqtaaluk region , which is part of the Canadian territory of Nunavut .
The river flows a few kilometers north of Kimmirut and can be traveled by canoe . The 100 kilometer long river flows into Soper Lake and then directly into Pleasant Inlet, a branch of the Hudson Strait .
Flora and fauna
In the valley there are up to 3.6 meters high willow bushes , dwarf birches and an abundance of arctic wildflowers. The region around the river is home to caribou , ptarmigan and arctic hare . The Inuit have used the river as an important source of food and as a transport route for thousands of years.
