South Nahanni River
The South Nahanni River is a 563 km long tributary of the Liard River in northern Canada . It drains an area of 36,300 km² and has an average discharge of 404 m³ / s.

The South Nahanni River has its source at Mount Christie in the Mackenzie Mountains at an altitude of 1,600 m . Then it forms the border between the Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory for 10 kilometers. It flows through the Selwyn Mountains , where it receives the waters of the Little Nahanni River . To the east of the Bologna Ridge it makes an arc to the west. In the Vampires Peaks Range it takes in the Broken Skull River , then the Rabbitkettle River and in the Nahanni National Park Reserve the Hole in the Wall Creek . Here the river passes the 96 m high Virginia Falls waterfall ( ⊙ ). Then it crosses the Park Reserve and takes in the Flat River . Shortly before it flows into the Liard River at Nahanni Butte , 90 kilometers north of Fort Liard , it takes in the Jackfish River .
