The Seal River ("Seal" is the English word for " seal ") is a 260 km long river in northern Manitoba , Canada .
It has its origin in Shethanei Lake and flows to Hudson Bay . Shethanei Lake is fed by the two headwaters of the Seal River, the North Seal River and the South Seal River .
The Seal River was nominated for the Canadian Heritage Rivers System in 1987 and was added in 1992.
geography
With a length of 260 km, the Seal River is one of the four main rivers in the northern region of Manitoba. Of these, it is the northernmost that does not have any dams. Its catchment area covers an area of 50,000 km². The river is far from settlements in an isolated wilderness . The next places are Churchill and the little Tadoule Lake . Churchill is about 45 km south of the mouth of the river in Hudson Bay, while Tadoule Lake is far inland near the source. There are no permanent settlements along the river.
