Vito Schnabel

Vito Schnabel (born July 27, 1986 in New York City ) is an American art dealer . He runs galleries in New York and St. Moritz .

Life

Schnabel grew up in New York as the son of the painter and film director Julian Schnabel and the designer Jacqueline Beaurang. He attended the private Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn and studied for a year at Columbia University . He organized his first exhibition Incubator in 2003 at the age of 16, a group show in New York. Two years later he showed works by the painter Ron Gorchovs in a solo exhibition . Schnabel's other early exhibitions were paintings by the Chinese-Canadian painter Terence Koh in the former studio of the photographer Richard Avedon in 2008 , several exhibitions by the artist Rene Ricard in New York, Los Angeles and London, and in 2012 an exhibition of paintings and drawings by the American performance artist Laurie Anderson in New York.

In 2013 Schnabel opened an office and an exhibition space in New York, where he has presented public exhibitions ever since. He has organized several large group exhibitions in pop-up locations , including 2013 DSM-V (curated by David Rimanelli) at the Farley Post Office in New York and 2015 First Show / Last Show at Germania Bank, which has not been publicly accessible since the mid-1960s Building in the Bowery district of New York . In 2015 he opened the Vito Schnabel Gallery in St. Moritz in the former rooms of the Swiss art dealer and gallery owner Bruno Bischofberger , a long-time friend and mentor of Schnabel. The opening exhibition there showed Urs Fischer's Bruno & Yoyo . The gallery works with artists such as Jeff Elrod, Walton Ford , Walter Robinson, Sterling Ruby , Tom Sachs , Julian Schnabel and Pat Steir and trades in the estates of Dan Flavin , Sol LeWitt and Rene Ricard.

Schnabel also played roles in films such as Before It Gets Night (2000), Super Art Market (2009) and Miral (2010).

The tabloids reported on Schnabel's love affairs with Elle Macpherson , Liv Tyler , Demi Moore , Heidi Klum and Amber Heard, among others .
