Odelsen was a village settlement first mentioned in a document in 1074 in what is today the area of the north Hessian town of Wolfhagen , district of Kassel , which was mentioned for the last time in 1520 in a document from the Breitenau monastery as "Udalshusen". The small village was located about 3 km northeast of Wolfhagen at 285  m on the south bank of the Lohbach , on the site of today's Philippinenthal settlement, the northern part of the Wolfhagen district of Philippinenburg and -thal .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1074 in a deed of ownership from Hasungen Monastery , and in 1123, 1209, 1253 and 1310 it is recorded that the St. Petri-Stift in Fritzlar received the tithe in Odelsen. From 1253 half of the red tenth belonged to Hasungen Monastery.

In the course of time, the place name appeared in multiple spelling changes: Odolvehusen (1081), Odolfeshusen (1123), Odolfesen (1209), Odelsen (1321), Odilissen (1409), Odilssen (1424), Odolfeshusen (1424), Odelschen (1424) ), Odelheim (1435), Odolshusen (1435), Odilsheim (1450), Odelßen (1510) and Udalshusen (1520).
