Red interest

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rottzins (also Rodzins, Rodgeld, Rodheuer, Rodpfennig, Rodsteuer ) was a levy that had to be paid in German states at least since the early 15th century and well into the 19th century, a so-called improvement interest, on land that had been cleared or cleared that was due to the landlord . If this land was previously common land , the red rent was owed to the sovereign. In a broader sense, the Rottzins also referred to the fee for a clearing permit and the legal claim to this fee.

The landlord's claim to Rottzins arose with the reclamation and did not lapse when the land was not used or given up. Normally, the levy had to be set up anew every year as an annual gradient , even if the reclaimed land fell fallow, and was thus also a deterrent against excessive clearing.

The red interest was occasionally paid by the annual donation of a chicken .

If the land belonged to the tenth floor, the so-called Rodzehnt was also to be paid. In the case of heaths , moors and geest as well as hats and willows , the corresponding tax was called Neubruchzehnt or Novalzehnt .
