Jocelyn Quivrin (born February 14, 1979 in Dijon , † November 15, 2009 in Saint-Cloud ) was a French actor . Between 1990 and 2009 he played in more than 50 film and television productions.

Life

Training and success as an actor

The son of a paramedic from the French SAMU already made guest appearances in French television series in the early 1990s. Quivrin made his feature film debut in 1993 at the age of 13 in the role of Duc d'Anjou in Roger Planchon's costume drama The Childhood of the Sun King , which earned him his first agent. He then appeared regularly in French film and television productions, often in costume dramas such as Planchon's Toulouse-Lautrec (1998), Daniel Vignes' television multipart L'enfant des Lumières (2002) with Nathalie Baye , Laurent Boutonnat's Jacquou le croquant or Jean de La Fontaine - Le défi (both 2007), in which he embodied the young Louis XIV . The young actor with the high forehead and blue eyes attended public and private schools in Paris and took film courses at the Lycee Hector-Berlioz in Vincennes . However , Quivrin soon gave up university film training after graduating from high school in Nanterre . He also attended the school des Théâtre des Enfants Terribles for a few months and took other theater courses , but despite this saw himself as an autodidact.

Quivrin became known to a broad French audience in 2001 through Alain Tasma's multi-part television series Rastignac ou les ambitieux , in which he successfully slipped into the role of Honoré de Balzac's character of the same name . The French daily Le Monde then praised the young actor as a "revelation" , Le Figaro as "very much alive" and Quivrin's performance in the France 2 production was awarded the Actor Award of the Luchon TV Festival. The actor was also represented in international cinema with small roles in the Oscar- winning films Elizabeth (1998) and Syriana (2005). His breakthrough as a film actor was paved for him in 2008 by Jan Kounens 39.90 , in which he was able to show his comedic talent as a freaky advertising specialist alongside Jean Dujardin . The film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Frédéric Beigbeder earned him numerous awards for young actors in France, including the Prix Lumières , the Patrick Dewaere Prize and a César nomination. He then increasingly shifted his focus to roles in comedy such as Léa Fazer's feature film Notre univers impitoyable or LOL (Laughing Out Loud) with Sophie Marceau (both in 2008).

In parallel with his career in film and television, Quivrin also worked as a stage actor . In 2003 he starred as Lord Darlington alongside Caroline Cellier and Mélanie Doutey in a production of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermeres Fan , directed by François-Louis Tilly. In 2008 she appeared in Redjep Mitrovista's Do you love me at the Avignon Theater Festival .

Private life and early death

Jocelyn Quivrin was in a relationship with the actress Alice Taglioni , whom he met in 2004 while filming Robert Salia's drama Grande Ecole and with whom he also acted in the films Notre univers impitoyable and Ca $ h (both 2008). As a director, he shot his partner - together with Nathalie Baye and Jean-Pierre Cassel - in the short film Acteur (2007). A son was born in March 2009. In his spare time, Quivrin was enthusiastic about sports cars from childhood and bought an old Porsche convertible at the age of 20, and later a Dodge Viper . In August 2009 he bought an Ariel Atom sports car in Belgium . "It's a wonderful vehicle to do idiotic things with your buddies," Quivrin said in an interview with Paris Match .

Almost three months later, Quivrin was killed in a traffic accident on the evening of November 15, 2009 at the age of 30. On the way from his house in Dreux , in the direction of Paris , he lost control of his Ariel Atom on a wet road on the A13 and had an accident at the entrance to the Saint-Cloud tunnel . The actor died instantly; the speed was determined to be 97 km / h, after having been estimated to be much higher. It was the first fatal accident involving the Ariel Atom vehicle. At the time of his death, Quivrin had been working on a script for a feature film that he would have wanted to make in 2010. This should be about a young man who thinks he is James Dean .

Quivrin's funeral took place on November 21, 2009 at the L'Église Réformée de l'Etoile in Paris with the participation of numerous filmmakers. The actor was praised by the French Minister of Culture, Frédéric Mitterrand, as "one of the most attractive faces in French cinema" .
