The Ariel Atom is a high-performance road-legal sports cars the company Ariel Motor Company . The special thing about the car is that, similar to the KTM X-Bow , it has no body . The powerful engine and a very low curb weight give the car exceptional performance, which in some cases even surpasses super sports cars from Porsche , Ferrari or Lamborghini .

Based on the Ariel Atom, the disguised roadster Rezvani Beast and the electric vehicle Wrightspeed X1 were developed.

Prices

The prices of the Ariel Atom must be requested individually, there is no official price list. The used Ariel Atom 1 is currently being traded for around € 30,000. The Ariel Atom 2 cost 44,506 euros in 2009. The Ariel Atom 3 was available for the equivalent of around 39,000 euros. The Ariel Atom 500 V8 had a list price of 183,000 euros (25 pieces limited) and the Atom 3.5R the equivalent of 97,000 euros.

Performance

With a maximum acceleration of 0–60 miles / hour (96.56 km / h) in 2.89 seconds, the 221 kW version of the Atom ranks third among mass-produced sports cars, behind the Bugatti Veyron, according to a test by the Sunday Times (2.46 s) and behind the Ultima GTR (2.6 s). According to the manufacturer, the 500 hp variant with a V8 engine achieves an acceleration of 0–60 miles / hour in less than 2.3 seconds.

In a comparison of the British television program Top Gear on the BBC 2 broadcaster , the Ariel Atom achieved a lap time of 1: 19.5 minutes on a test track, just behind a Ferrari Enzo with 1:19 minutes, but ahead of a Porsche Carrera GT with 1 : 19.8 minutes.

The new variant with a 500 hp V8 engine achieved a lap time of 1: 15.1 minutes on the Top Gear test track, beating the McLaren MP4-12C (1: 16.2), Bugatti Veyron Supersport (1:16) , 8) and the Gumpert Apollo (1: 17,1).

The Ariel 4 was presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2018. It has the engine of the Honda Civic Type R and reaches a top speed of 260 km / h.

Simulations

USA license construction

Since the end of 2005, the Brammo Motorsports company in the US state of Oregon has been manufacturing the Ariel Atom under license for the US market. Brammo has been using the two-liter Ecotec engine from General Motors developed by Opel for the Atom since 2006 . With the start of construction of the Atom 3, Brammo handed over production to TMI Autotech, TMI took over all rights and the supply of spare parts in America.
