Project Gotham Racing , PGR for short , is a video game series from the genre of action racing games . The games were developed by the British development studio Bizarre Creations , while Microsoft Game Studios took on the role of publisher . The game series contains a total of four parts. The fourth part appeared on Xbox 360 in 2007.

The first two parts appeared for Microsoft's Xbox game console , parts 3 and 4 on its successor, the Xbox 360 .

Metropolis Street Racer is the predecessor of these games and appeared on Sega's Dreamcast ( Metropolis is the hometown of the famous comic book hero Superman ). Since Sega still owns the naming rights, the home town of another comic book protagonist, Batman , was used for the Xbox game (initially only as a working title, which was, however, adopted for the retail version). Contrary to what these names suggest, the player does not go to fictional, but to replicas of real cities such as London or Florence .

Game description

simulator with Project Gotham Racing 4

The special feature of PGR is a medal system. This leads to immense long-term motivation as the player will try to get all of these medals. At PGR there were still the three classic medals gold, silver and bronze. In the successor PGR 2, the number was expanded to five by introducing the steel medal for beginners and the platinum medal for professionals. Certain challenges are linked to each medal. B. experience a certain place in a race, achieve a certain lap time or achieve a high number of slalom points. This slalom is another special feature of the PGR series that is not found in any other game. The player drives down a race track marked with a cone and receives points for each passing through a cone gate. However, if he succeeds in passing another cone gate before the time runs out or in performing a point-effective maneuver such as drifting or riding on two wheels, a second number of points appears next to the normal number of points. This is added to the normal after the time has elapsed. The second number of points increases exponentially and can therefore surpass the first by a multiple. The aim of the player is therefore to put down a combo over the whole route in order to achieve the highest possible number of points.
