Metropolis Street Racer (MSR) is a video game from the genre of racing games , which was developed by Bizzare Creations and was released for Sega's game console Dreamcast in 2000 .

Gameplay

The races take place in licensed vehicles in three districts of London, Tokyo and San Francisco. While there are only three vehicles to choose from at the beginning, the player is rewarded with a new vehicle after completing each of the 25 chapters.

Only one chapter is available at the start of the game. Each additional one is opened by a certain amount of earned "honor points", so-called "kudos". These are awarded if, for example, you win a bet made before the race (e.g. at least 3rd place), drive clean laps or drift through corners in style. Conversely, the player loses kudos if he rams opponents or bumps into obstacles.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack composed by Richard Jacques is presented via a simulated radio program, which appears very authentic through advertising and comments from moderators between the pieces of music. This is supported by interference and noise when driving through tunnels. Each city offers three different radio stations.

reception

MSR is characterized by very good graphics for the time and high long-term motivation. In addition, the game (if set correctly beforehand) uses the console's internal system clock, i. H. the time of day of the respective city in which you are driving is the actual time of day (e.g. midday in Germany = night in Tokyo).

Sequels

In 2002 the game was continued under the name Project Gotham Racing (PGR) for the US publisher Microsoft and its console Xbox . This was followed by Project Gotham Racing 2, also on Xbox, and on December 2, 2005 Project Gotham Racing 3 and later Project Gotham Racing 4 on Microsoft's Xbox 360 .
