The third award ceremony for the Césars took place on February 4, 1978 in the Salle Pleyel concert hall in Paris . The actress Jeanne Moreau was president of the awards ceremony . The ceremony, hosted by Pierre Tchernia , was broadcast by the public television channel Antenne 2, today France 2 .
With seven awards, including Best Film, with a total of eight nominations, Alain Resnais ' film Providence turned out to be the big winner of the evening. Jean Rochefort , who won César as Best Supporting Actor as early as 1976, prevailed against Alain Delon , Charles Denner , Gérard Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere as Best Actor with his performance in Der Haudegen . In the Best Actress category, Simone Signoret was able to assert herself against Brigitte Fossey , Isabelle Huppert , Miou-Miou and Delphine Seyrig in Madame Rosa .
