Philippe Léotard (born August 28, 1940 in Fréjus , † August 25, 2001 in Paris ) was a French actor and singer . He was the brother of the politician François Léotard .

Life

After he started playing with Ariane Mnouchkine, he made a brief appearance in 1970 as a drunk who was looking for an argument at François Truffaut's table and bed . It was also Truffaut who, after a supporting role in Two Girls from Wales with the role of Clovis in A Beautiful Girl Like Me, entrusted him with a larger role for the first time. He had his breakthrough in the early 1980s as an informer Dédé Laffont in La Balance - The Treason , for which he received a César for Best Actor in 1983 .

Léotard, who had alcohol and drug problems, died of a lung disease. He was buried in Paris in the Montparnasse Cemetery in the 9th Division.
