A beautiful girl like me is a 1972 French film directed by François Truffaut . The script was based on Henry Farrell's novel Such a Gorgeous Kid Like Me .
action
The young and somewhat stiff sociology lecturer Stanislas Prévine wants to write his doctoral thesis on criminal women and has chosen Camille Bliss for his research, whom he asks about her résumé in prison.
The criminal, who has always known how to use things for her own benefit, tells her life story in an impartial manner, beginning with the death of her stepfather through her fault, which led to the nine-year-old being put in a reformatory. After her escape from the asylum, she quickly managed to marry by pretending to be pregnant while the minor was still underage.
With her descriptions, she imperceptibly begins to influence the scientist, who is inexperienced in women's affairs, so that he, together with Hélène, who writes his texts and is in love with him, campaigns for Camille's case, for which she is in prison, to be reopened . He manages to find an amateur film that can be used to prove that Camille did not murder the rat fighter Arthur.
With great media attention, she was released and immediately started a successful show career. When Stanislas, who is in love, visits her, he happens to get caught up in a jealousy scene with Camille's husband. In doing so, she shoots her husband and accuses Stanislas of the crime, for which he is then imprisoned himself. When her mother-in-law dies, who falls into a deadly trap that Camille has long prepared, she inherits her fortune. Stanislas explains to his lawyer how Camille murdered the mother-in-law. Shortly afterwards, Stanislas is watching TV in prison. It becomes clear that his lawyer is having an affair with Camille and, together with her, is destroying the last evidence of Camille's guilt.
background
In 1971 Truffaut wrote to his co-author Jean-Loup Dabadie that he was thinking of casting Claude Jade in the role of Camille Blasse , but then found her too young and took Bernadette Lafont, ten years her senior.
The film was shot in Béziers in the south of France . The original director François Truffaut can be heard as the voice of a journalist.
criticism
The film-dienst found: “ The film playfully overrides the rules of bourgeois morality and establishes a world in which cheek and selfishness win. A film that explores the possibilities of black humor and makes use of glaring and highlight-like elements in its style. "
The Internet portal kino-zeit.de says: “With easy-going, biting humor and sometimes clownish exaggerations in acting and dramaturgy, François Truffaut entertains his audience here with an ordinary woman who is covetous, naive to the point of being naive with a whole pack of grief, ambivalences and melancholy of sly men and ultimately brings them all down.
