Guy Marchand (born May 22, 1937 in Paris ) is a French actor , jazz clarinetist and singer .

Life

Marchand was born in the Ménilmontant district. His father was a scrap iron dealer at the Saint-Ouen flea market. He discovered his love for jazz early on and played the clarinet in Parisian clubs . During the Algerian war, he was at times as a paratrooper - Lieutenant liaison officer to the Foreign Legion and during a holiday he wrote "La Passionata" which sung by him the hit of summer 1965 (was previously compositions have been by him of chanson singers like Hervé Vilard and Régine been interpreted ). Marchand has released numerous records since then and is also very well known in France as a “ crooner ” - with a preference for Latin American music such as tango and mambo.

He came to film through music. He had his first major role in Rum-Boulevard in 1971 with Robert Enrico alongside Lino Ventura and Brigitte Bardot . He played a comedic role in A Beautiful Girl Like Me by François Truffaut , in the successful cousin of Jean-Charles Tacchella he played the Latin Lover . Marchand often played the crook or the somewhat greasy police inspector in French films, for example in Der Saustall (1981) by Bertrand Tavernier and in Das Verhör (1981) by Claude Miller , in which he goes a little too far when questioning Michel Serrault Lino Ventura is stopped. For this he received the César for best supporting actor in 1982 (after he had been nominated for Der Loulou in 1981 ). In the same year he played with Serrault in Nestor Burma , a private detective character from the novels by Léo Malet , but at that time still as an inspector (Serrault played Burma). Ten years later he made Nestor Burma his star role in the series' eight seasons so far. The comedic character of the agile detective, supported by the attractive secretary Hélène and with reasonably good contacts to Commissioner Farroux, hated by his assistant Fabre, made him a television star in France. The series also gave him the opportunity to show his skills as a saxophone player (jazz).

Known to the German television audience Marchand in 1983 by the title role in the recent ZDF - Advent Adventure Vierteiler The man of Suez , where he Ferdinand de Lesseps , the builder of the Suez Canal figured.

He is known for his love of tango dancing and equestrian sports - he also breeds horses himself. Marchand is involved in the fight against the osteoporosis that his mother suffered from.

In 1973 he received an Emmy for the musical La Vie d'Al Jolson, based on the life of the singer and entertainer of the same name . In 2006 he played in Dans Paris by Christophe Honoré , for which he was nominated for a César in 2007.
