Peter Patzak
Peter Patzak (born January 2, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian film director . The interdisciplinary artists turned to a study of subjects art history , psychology and painting the film to.
Patzak is the son of a police officer with the rank of major , as he told the TV magazine Seitenblicke on the occasion of the presentation of the movie Kottan: Rien ne va plus in Vienna's Gartenbaukino .
Director

From 1968 to 1970 he worked in New York . After returning to Vienna, he made his first feature film The Situation (1972). Peter Patzak has also directed numerous television films ; best known for being crime film - parody Kottan determined , he from 1976 for seven years for the ORF produced. In 1978 he presented a highly acclaimed film adaptation of Martin Walser's Das Einhorn , where Walser himself worked on the script and later praised the film adaptation.
The director has received numerous awards such as the Director's Prize at the Venice Biennale, the Max Ophüls Prize , the Adolf Grimme Prize , the Golden Romy , the Berlin Film Festival Prize and a UNESCO Prize .
Since 1993 he has been teaching directing at the Vienna Film Academy . In 1996 he filmed the novel Hotel Shanghai by Vicki Baum .
actor
As an actor, Peter Patzak worked mainly in Austrian television productions, mostly with cameo appearances in his own films (mainly determined in Kottan, where he was seen as a police officer, among other things).
painting
In 1962 Patzak exhibited for the first time as a painter, after which his pictures were shown from Basel to New York, in 1996 a Peter Patzak retrospective (works from 1961 to 1996) could be visited in the Saarland Künstlerhaus. In 2005, one of his works was auctioned on ebay for the benefit of the Hermann Gmeiner Fund Germany eV.
Theater direction
In February 2007 Patzak presented his first theater production at the Wiener stadtTheater in Walfischgasse . It was for a stage version of the film Interview by Theo van Gogh , played by Dieter Laser and Elke Winkens . Patzak also designed the stage set for this performance.
Fiction
His novel The Spirit of Color was published by Ritter in 2005 , and another book with the title Nudes in Silence was published in 2008 by Klever Verlag .
