Red is a beautiful color is a German crime film by Peter Patzak from 1998. It is the 203rd episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the 7th case for Schmücke and Schneider , who are investigating this case for the first time in Erfurt .

Schmücke and Schneider are led by public prosecutor Dr. Nele Cordes was called to Erfurt after there were allegations there of corrupt officials and a police officer fell victim to an attack. The local police officers already have evidence against the single club owner Noske, and Commissioner Arnold Weber is not very enthusiastic when he receives administrative assistance from Halle. Noske sees the whole thing as a targeted campaign against him in order to pull him out of circulation as an unloved competitor.
When Schmücke looks around the victim's apartment, he finds a large amount of cash, which makes this policeman's bribery appear likely. A short time later, his colleague Arnold Weber was also killed.
The lawyer Dr. Alma Voss has her own very special plan to keep business in the city's red-light district in order. She herself wants to appear as a partner in brothels. They envisioned that there should be a luxury store in the center of the city and a simple one on the outskirts of the city. So the Russian mafia would no longer be interested in opening more brothels. However, only her brother Hannes Voss, who already owns a few brothels, knows about this project. But the inspectors Schmücke and Schneider track down the lawyer. They confront the Voss siblings with the results of their investigation and can thus convict Hannes Voss as the murderer of the two police officers. Gebhardt knew too much about the pimp's business and had blackmailed him. After his death, Weber continued with it, as he too had been privy to the details by his colleague.
Before Schmücke and Scheider can arrest Hannes Voss, he jumps out of the window of his villa to his death.
