Marita Böhme (born May 7, 1939 in Dresden ) is a German actress.

life and work

Böhme grew up in Dresden-Klotzsche. After training as a kindergarten teacher in Dresden, she studied at the State Drama School in Berlin from 1958 to 1961 . During her studies she received a guest contract at the Volksbühne Berlin, before an engagement at the Landestheater Parchim followed, where she played in Der Biberpelz und Gespenster , among others .

She celebrated successes at the Dresden State Operetta as a musical star in Bel Ami (1962) and as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady (from 1965 to 1978 in 400 performances) with Peter Herden as Professor Higgins. From 1966 to 1970 Marita Böhme was engaged at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin and was particularly successful in the title role of Ibsen's Nora . From 1970 until 2004 she worked at the Staatstheater Dresden .

She made her film debut in 1961 with the lead role in the successful musical comedy On the Sunny Side alongside Manfred Krug . This film established Marita Boehme's reputation as one of the most popular DEFA actresses. In the following years she also embodied mostly self-confident, emancipated women of the present and created a realistic image of women in everyday life in the GDR. In films like Lot's Wife , Life for Two and The Hiding Place , she dealt with traditional female stereotypes in her roles, while in others like Carbide and Sorrel or The Man Who Came After Grandma , she demonstrated her comedic skills. The toddler who can be seen at her side in some scenes in the 1978 DFF television series Dangerous Manhunt is her daughter Jessica. In the television series Polizeiruf 110 she played the role of the opera director Edith Reger from 1996 to 2005.

Marita Böhme retired into private life in 2004 and lives in Dresden-Striesen. She is twice divorced and has two children, her daughter is the singer Jessica Glatte .
