The Reserveheld is a German comedy film of the DEFA of Wolfgang Luderer from the year 1965th

action

The well-known actor and comedian Ralf Horricht interrupts his latest film in the middle of the test recordings, in which he is supposed to play a simple and undisciplined soldier. While still on set, he made the condition that he be cast as a colonel - otherwise he would not be involved in the film. At home with his girlfriend Susanne he is busy making plans: First he makes an awkward marriage proposal to Susanne, which she accepts anyway. In order to be able to spend his honeymoon on the Baltic Sea in peace , he wants the director - who, he hopes, will beg him, as always, not to jump off the film - give him at least 14 days to think about it. The director, who happened to witness these reflections, then wanted to get Horricht off his high horse and ignored the insulted film star, who was now beginning his trip to the Baltic Sea, very confused.

Without noticing, however, Horricht burned a draft notice for the National People's Army before leaving - together with a mountain of unopened fan mail. At the Baltic Sea he then receives a telegram from the army, which again asks him to report, but he thinks it is a joke by his director and tears it up. So it happens that Horricht is taken into custody by two police officers immediately after the wedding with Susanne and taken to the barracks. From now on he is a reservist.

The men in his room are thrilled that Horricht did not avoid the army service - even if he secretly tried several times in vain. As a result, all of the room work is relieved of him, others iron his clothes, clean his shoes, make his bed and clear his locker. Even at the morning roll call, Horricht is allowed to be late after a while. This changes when the group with Captain Hottas receives a new manager. He doesn't understand fun and knows how to distinguish strictly between work and leisure. In addition, he does not recognize the prominent actor Horricht and sees him as a very common reserve worker. The others let him believe.

The preparations for the Horricht film about the army are under way and so the shooting team will soon be not far from the barracks. Susanne is also among them, who is courted by hottas after a chance encounter. Little does he know that she is Horricht's wife and Horricht, in turn, soon suspects that his superior is having a relationship with Susanne. When the entire company begins to talk about a Hottas affair, Horricht, who had previously tried in vain to get to Susanne's room without proof of a marriage certificate, steals a general's uniform from the prop and secretly moves out of the barracks to see Susanne come. She reacts annoyed because Horricht "has to make a movie scene" out of everything, while Hottas is horrified that he flirted with Horricht's wife. Horricht and Hottas speak out: Hottas secretly smuggles Horricht back into the barracks, while Horricht promises to be the most exemplary reservist in the future. In fact, it performs well and even carries out a special order during a maneuver, complicated but reliable. In the end, Horricht's military days are over and he could finally go on a honeymoon with Susanne. Shortly before he gets into the car, however, he runs back to the barracks - he forgot to take his marriage certificate with him.

production

The "reserve hero" Ralf Horricht was written for the stage comedian Rolf Herricht by screenwriter Rudi Strahl. It was the first script that Eulenspiegel author Strahl wrote.

The film was made in 1964 in Sondershausen, Thuringia, and had its premiere on February 27, 1965 in the Theater of Friendship in Sondershausen. Although it was a hit with the general public, Der Reserveeheld was never shown again in the cinema: The comedic view of the NVA soon after the premiere called “the criticism of the culture guardians on the scene”.

criticism

The contemporary criticism criticized the "hearty gags" and found that Luderer and Strahl "reached a little too deep into the clothes box here and there". Nevertheless, the film contains "a whole series of pretty ideas, and above all the whole thing was made up for by a brisk staging."

The lexicon of international films wrote: “Despite the star role for the popular comedian Rolf Herricht, only a relatively undemanding military amusement. The grotesque experiences of a film comedian suddenly called up for a reserve exercise spread at best moderate hilarity. Interesting as a rare attempt in the GDR not to take the topic of the National People's Army seriously. ”For Cinema , the film was“ As 'funny' as the basic training ”.
