The Protestant Church at the Tempelhof field in Berlin district of Tempelhof is a great round church on Wolff ring corner Boelckestraße . Your design comes from Fritz Bräuning .

history

On the site of the Tempelhofer Feld , a relaxed garden city was built between 1920 and 1930 according to plans by Tempelhof City Councilor Fritz Bräuning. The round church was built with this settlement. The laying of the foundation stone took place on March 20, 1927 and on May 17, 1928 the community celebrated the dedication service .

The church was badly hit by air raids during World War II . It was rebuilt with the simplest means by 1950 and partially rebuilt in 1959/1960.

building

With a diameter of 30 meters, the church on Tempelhofer Feld is one of the largest round churches in Berlin. The bell tower crowns the dome, the structure reaches a height of 42 meters. The exposure takes place through six meter high windows.

The interior design corresponds to that of a typical longitudinal building . The altar is on the north side. The pulpit hovers over him . The interior offers around 420 seats.

Organs

Schuke organ from 1957, supplemented by pedal towers

Sauer Orgelbau produced the first organ in 1928. It had 55 registers , divided into three manuals and pedal . Action and playing aids were designed electrically. There were also two swell mechanisms and a crescendo roller .

After the end of the war, this original organ was largely destroyed as a result of vandalism . In 1948, a small multiplex organ was made from the remaining stock and set up on the gallery opposite .

It was not until 1957 that a new organ was built using the old magazine bellows. Based on the prospectus behind the preserved original pulpit of the original Sauer organ, Karl Schuke Orgelbau made an instrument (op. 51) with originally 24 registers, divided into two manuals and a pedal.

The organ was expanded to include a breastwork in 1965 and has had 30 stops since then.

The instrument was cleaned in 1992 and re-voiced by the organ builders U. Knaak, B. Immer and R. Klein. The organ has a Bach - Kellner - temperament , the concert pitch was fixed at 445  Hz . In 2016 the organ was cleaned again. It was reduced to 441 Hz in order to enable interaction with the Bechstein grand piano (1880).

The organ support association founded in 2016 enabled the organ to be expanded by two pedal stops in 2019. The organ builder Edzard Knoke, with the technical support of the former cantor Christoph Wilcken and the organ expert Markus Epp, built new pedal towers on the left and right, which accommodate the Praestant 16 'and the trombone 16'.
