A longitudinal building ( lat. Longus = long; longitudo = length) is a longitudinal, usually also longitudinally axial building (or a large room); In terms of building typology, the form results from the functions (procession, veneration, prayer) specifically linked to a direction, ie a “goal”; hence a common name for buildings in a sacred context. For longitudinally rectangular secular buildings , especially those of the modern age and modernity without a special internal orientation, the translation "longitudinal building" is common.
