content
Martin Hoff is a young smelter in a steelworks, plus a talented jazz singer and the star of the amateur drama group in his company. One day he delegates him to a drama school, from which despite his talent he is expelled because of disciplinary difficulties. At the farewell party, he meets a young woman who, however, pays little attention to the success-used Casanova. With his former fellow students he bets that he will manage to conquer it.
He starts looking for the stranger who is supposed to work on a construction site. So he soon hires at a construction company and meets her again as his construction manager. The daredevil, who also likes to be the focus of the construction site, quickly falls in love with Ottilie, but she doesn't notice him anymore. Only when he shows himself more level-headed and determined does he succeed in winning Ottilie's heart. Personal happiness is soon followed by success as an artist - he becomes a celebrated star.
The film is partly set in Leipzig and shows some of the cityscape at that time.
song
- Put your worries in the corner, take your hat. Take a walk on the sunny side and everything will be fine.
background
On the sunny side , Manfred made Krug a well-known public favorite. The scriptwriters had deliberately integrated episodes from Krug's life. Krug had actually completed an apprenticeship as a steel smelter and had really been expelled from drama school because of disciplinary difficulties. Among other things, this gave the film an unusual closeness to life.
Awards
The film's creators' collective (G. Steineckert, H. Kahlau, R. Kirsten, H. Heinrich, M. Krug) was awarded the Heinrich Greif Prize, 1st class. It is "a really cheerful, optimistic, fun film in which the visitor can laugh from the heart and which is connected to the problems of life with the people of the German Democratic Republic".
Gisela Steineckert received the art award of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) in 1962 .
Reviews
"Your Ottilie as a partner of Manfred Krug in Ralf Kirsten's film On the Sunny Side turned out to be a resounding success. With this role Marita Böhme succeeded in what was not seen too often in the DEFA film before: The portrayal of a self-confident, real young woman. "
“ On the sunny side is a dangerous film. For example for all other pleasure film authors and directors; because he stole their lazy excuses. "
" On the sunny side , the swallow in the Babelsberg sky and contradicted the modified Tucholsky bonmot:" If the DEFA shoots a comedy film, the viewers stay at home and cry. ""
