Rolf Römer , actually Rolf Specht (born September 20, 1935 in Königswinter , Siegkreis , Rhine Province , † March 15, 2000 in Berlin ), was a German actor and director.

Life

Rolf Römer lived in Struppen near Pirna during the Second World War. He was a student "because of insubordination and lack of self control" of the high school in Pirna relegated . He then worked initially as a construction worker and tractor operator, i. H. as a driver, in agricultural production cooperatives (LPG) and began training as a bricklayer in 1952. He was drafted into the army (NVA) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in Eggesin.

After completing his acting studies from 1956 to 1960 at the German Academy for Film Art in Potsdam-Babelsberg , Römer received his first engagement in 1960 at the Miners' Theater in Senftenberg as a character actor. In 1963 he switched to film. Several socially critical films in which he was involved were put on the index by the 11th plenum of the SED Central Committee . He gained popularity through his roles in the DEFA Indian films The Sons of the Great Bear , Chingachgook and Tecumseh .

The success of these Indian films did not satisfy him. In order to avoid being tied to a certain subject, Römer himself took on the direction and shot several erotic comedies in which his wife, the actress Annekathrin Bürger , played the leading role and which became great successes in the GDR. Römer was one of the signatories of the protest against the expatriation of the songwriter Wolf Biermann . For this reason, Römer was sidelined by the GDR cultural politicians. He was the author, director and actor of the controversial television film Guilty from the series Polizeiruf 110 in the GDR . After the film was broadcast in 1978, he did not receive any major commissions from DEFA or television. Until 1989 he was mainly active as a speaker in radio plays and cartoon series.

Even after the fall of the Wall , Römer, who had been forgotten, could not find any producers for his scripts. He made documentaries and was involved in social projects in Russia : Together with his wife, he founded the Orphans of the Don association in 1993 .

Rolf Römer had an accident on February 27, 2000 when he tried to kill weeds with chemicals while working in the garden. The chemicals ignited and Römer's clothing caught fire. He died on March 15, 2000 in the Marzahn Accident Clinic from the consequences of his severe burns. He found his final resting place in the family grave of the woodpeckers in the Lutheran cemetery.
