Litera (also written LITERA ) was a GDR record label and belonged to VEB Deutsche Schallplatten .

Fairy tale Hansel and Gretel as a radio play

The label was created around 1963 from an order number series of the label Eterna , which was intended for workers' songs, political songs and marches , but also speech records .

At Litera , speech recordings (mainly speech records) of the following genres were produced:

  • literature
  • Youth and children's literature, fairy tales as a radio play
  • Drama
  • cabaret
  • Documentation

The retail price (EVP) of the speech plate shown here was 6.80 M.

Litera disappeared in the fall of 1990 through the sale of the company, which had already been renamed Deutsche Schallplatten GmbH (VEB Deutsche Schallplatten) . As a sub-label it can still be found occasionally on sound carriers - sometimes also as Litera junior  . These are mostly CD editions of old literary recordings.
