Death in the Bank is a German crime film by Dirk Regel from 2007. It is the 284th episode in the Polizeiruf 110 film series and the 33rd case for Schmücke and Schneider .

action

Heinz Markowski was found stabbed to death in the anteroom of a bank. The inspectors Schmücke and Schneider are called. Bank director Walter Conrad cannot explain how the man got into the bank unnoticed. After all, he had just had a new and modern security system installed. However, the dead man was co-owner of the company that had installed the system and obviously the security system failed for an hour during the time change, so that everyone could have access to the bank. At first glance, nothing seems to have been stolen, but Christian Fiedler, an employee of the bank, is horrified to find the contents of a safe deposit box missing. Since he himself rented this subject under a false name, he is silent about it.

The victim's wife explains to the inspectors that her husband left the house around midnight the previous night because he could not sleep. This happens more often and that is why she was not very worried. Schmücke and Schneider think it is possible that Markowski happened to pass the bank on his way through the night, noticed the break-in and wanted to prevent it. After the forensics department finds metal shavings, the investigators take a closer look at the locker room and discover the opened compartment. This locker is owned by a family who are amazed that they are said to have a safe. This makes it clear to the investigators that only someone within the bank can have rented this compartment. Ms. Weigand finds traces of fiber in it that can only come from euro notes.

For the inspectors, only clerk Fiedler comes into consideration for having used the locker, as according to the locking protocol, only he was present when the locker was opened. In addition, in recent years he has been tasked with processing and closing accounts of deceased bank customers. The examination of these old cases confirms the assumption that Fiedler had enriched himself with foreign capital and deposited this money in the locker. His colleague Anita Arndt had found out and wanted to use the time change to get the money unnoticed. After the murder weapon was found in a house search in her basement, she jumped out of the window out of desperation.

When looking for the cash, Schmücke and Schneider find it in the bank. Arndt had also sensibly deposited the notes in a locker.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv thinks: “'Death in the bank' is a surprisingly modern story for Halle's 'police call' conditions. The increase in staff is obviously good for the ensemble. The new public prosecutor (Katerina Jacob) is putting a lot of pressure on the two police officers from the old school. An unspectacular but solidly staged Mitrate crime thriller! "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and found: “Told too leisurely across the board”.
