occupation

Sumpf is a German crime film by Marijan D. Vajda from 1999. It is the 207th episode in the series Polizeiruf 110 and the 9th case for Schmücke and Schneider . The commissioners are investigating a journalist's murder .

action

After the journalist Jürgen Loock is killed by a car bomb, the inspectors Schmücke and Schneider try to find out the perpetrator and the background. The dead man's daughter, Meike, is behaving strangely from the point of view of the inspectors, and due to the inheritance of 2.4 million marks, her perpetrator cannot be ruled out. She gives the police a diskette with her father's work, which is encrypted in such a way that the files are initially illegible. Although the code for decryption could be found in a book that Meike Loock had received from her father's friend, this is no longer of any use because a stranger manages to destroy the disk.

The analysis of the victim's incoming payments unearths horrific sums for alleged PR consulting for various companies. These include "Rink Bau GmbH", which is currently building a new city clinic, and "Saturn Consulting". Schmücke suspects that this is a kind of hush money so that the journalist does not publish certain things about these companies.

The co-owner of "Rink Bau GmbH", Thomas Bartkowiak, is found shot one day. Even if the whole thing looks like suicide and he confesses the murder of Jürgen Loock in a suicide note, it is clear to the investigators that Bartkowiak is only a pawn victim . You have already discovered a large-scale property speculation in which Bartkowiak helped Peter Rink (“Rink Bau GmbH”) to acquire properties that should soon become lucrative building land. With the help of Meike Loock, the commissioners set a trap for Peter Rink and in the end arrest him for two murders.
